HOW TO GET THE BEST NIGHT SLEEP

I haven't been having the best sleep this past month so I tried many many things to make my sleep a little better. I didn't realize how important it is to sleep well until I started feeling incredibly tired and sleepy and when many parts of my body started hurting. I did a little research and I think this would be a great chance for me to share this here. Hope this will help some of you who is suffering from the bad sleep.

1. Don't use your TV or computer to help you fall asleep.

I know it's tempting to fall asleep while watching something but it's actually a very bad idea. Your mind can't fully relax before going to sleep because it's constantly stimulated by bright screen of your TV or laptop. Instead, you should listen to some calm music or read a book. They say that you shouldn't use TV, computer or even phone one hour before you go to bed.

2. Make sure your room is dark enough when you go to bed.

The darker the room you sleep in is, the better your sleep will be. Use curtains if you need to make it darker.

3. Do some light exercise before going to bed.

If you don't exercise enough in the day (I don't) at least before going to sleep you should do some light exercise as stretching or yoga.

4. Make sure your room is cool enough.

When there's not enough air in the room, your sleep becomes very poor. Room shouldn't be neither too cool or too hot but every day before going to bed ventilate your room for a while. I noticed that I really have much better sleep when my room is a little colder. It's also easier to fall asleep.

5. Meditate.

If you have a tornado going on in your head every time you place your head on a pillow, you should try meditate before going to sleep. It can do wonders, believe me, even if it is just for 5 minutes. It helps with insomnia as well.

6. Bed should be used just for sleeping.

You shouldn't work in your bed, watch movies or eat. If you only sleep in your bed, you train your mind to fall asleep quicker. I, however, can't use this method because I do pretty much everything in my bed, it's a problem.

7. Clear your mind.

Before you go into bed, you should try writing all your minds on a piece of paper or in your journal, however you want. You can also make lists on a paper, it is much more effective than lay in bed and think about the things you need to do. You should clear your mind as much as that is possible before going to bed.

8. Don't just lay there.

If you try to fall asleep and toss and turn for more than 30 minutes, wake up. If insomnia doesn't want to leave you, you should get up and write in your journal, read a book, look through the window, meditate but there's no point to be laying in the bed and letting your mind do the work. That for sure won't let you fall asleep.

9. The room should be quiet.

If there is many noise coming through the windows, buy some earplugs, they help. Or you could listen to relaxing music with your earphones to reduce that noise. I luckily live in an area that is very quiet and I rarely need to use these methods.

10. Invest in a good mattress, good pillows and bed if that's possible.

It is so worth it you have no idea. I have been sleeping in a very uncomfortable bed for a very long time and I see a difference very clearly since I changed my sleeping space.

11. Drink relaxing tea before bedtime.

You can try some herbal teas like melissa, mint, chamomile.

  2. I do everything in my bed too!!! I am currently in my bed. I watch Netflix in bed, eat in bed, work in bed. Bed is my happy place. I do like some yoga before bed though, you are encouraged to nap in yoga anyway. It's the best exercise!
